Richard Morrell learnt his craft from master glassblowers in Stourbridge, the traditional centre of English crystal glassmaking. In 1982 he established the first privately owned hot glass studio in Melbourne.

His work has won several awards and is represented in national and overseas collections including the National Gallery of Victoria, the Powehouse Museum, Sydney, the Glasmuseum,Ebeltoft, Denmark and the Hamburg Museum of Arts and Crafts in Germany.

The bold colours of his current work echo surrealist imagery, while the forms are loose, fluid, and adventurous they belie the skill required in their making.
